Who We Are
Hearth Press in a small, independent press that publishes speculative fiction. We love stories that make us feel seen, human, and connected to each other—though, sometimes that is achieved by showing the opposite (alienation, issolation, disconnection).
History
The press was created in 2026 to support and connect the magazines we were already creating and connect them under one banner. The new "parent label" has the added benefit of allowing us to grow into publishing stand-alone books and moving into print production, rather than just publishing digital books.
Mission
A big part of our mission is to be as non-commercial as is possible while still publishing great fiction. As such, all of our digital releases (ebooks & PDF files) are given away for free. Our print books are sold in a non-profit style and priced at cost (where cost includes production and distribution of the work).
Masthead
Hearth Press, much like our magazines, is run by Sloum and Elevens. Both of those strange names are old web handles that have served us well over the years in our internet connected lives (we don't use them offline). Between the two of us we handle web develeopment, book design, working with authors, editing, and working with other publishers.
Our Publications
Magazines
Hearth Stories is a twice yearly cozy fantasy fiction magazine with stories focused on connection, family, relationships, and nature in medieval-styled fantasy settings. Hearth Stories has been published consistently since 2023.
Astral, Alien Fiction is an annually published speculative fiction magazine specializing in stories from or focusing on non-human perspectives. Astral began publishing in 2024 and endured a long hiatus, returning in the spring of 2027 under new editorial direction.
